HOMESTAY FAQ

Frequently questions about homestay

How do you choose your families?

  1. All new host are asked to fill in a comprehensive questionnaire so we know all about them.
  2. The homestay officer then visits them, inspects their home, talks to all the families (if possible) and guides them through the necessary rules and regulations. If they are suitable, we will give them a trial.
  3. A family will be dropped if feedback is consistently poor or they break guidelines.

Can students change homestay?

  1. The school will change your students' homestay immediately if there is a serious problem or the family does not follow English UK code of practice.
  2. If there is a small problem, we will try to sort it out with the student and the family first.
  3. However, if a student is not happy (but there is no strong reason) they can move if they give one weeks' notice.
  4. However, if they do not receive the notice, they must pay 1 weeks' money to the family.
  5. Normally, we can help a student find a new home 3 times, no more.

What do they do if they are unhappy with their family?

  1. Go and see the homestay officer immediately. They are in the office every day.
  2. Or they can tell their teacher and ask them to speak to the homestay office .
  3. At the end of the first week, they are given a questionnaire. They should fill it in and say they are not happy.

Do students get their homestay money back if they move to a flat from a homestay?

Yes, they will get 100% refund if they give the required 1 week' notice.

Do the students have to do their own laundry?

It depends on the family and the student. Most families are happy to put the students' washing in with theirs.

Do students have a single room?

  • All adult students are placed in a single room unless they request to share with a friend. All young learners share in the summer months.

Can students choose their families?

No, that would be difficult for us, but we do check in the enrolment form carefully to see if you do not like pets, loves children or smokes, etc.
